Jijo Jacob John

Artist | Sculptor | Art Director

I was born in Kottayam, Kerala, India and my journey with art began long before I knew it would shape my life. My formative years at the College of Fine Arts, Thiruvananthapuram, gave me the grounding I needed—both in traditional craft and in contemporary expression. Those years shaped my eye, my hand, and my understanding of form, texture, and visual storytelling.

Over the decades, I’ve worked as an artist, sculptor, designer, and art director, creating work for public spaces, galleries, and cinema. Whether I’m building a sculpture, drawing a portrait, or designing a film set, my focus has always been the same: to communicate emotion through form and to make art that connects with people.

Career Highlights

Cinema

I have had the privilege of working as Art Director for several Malayalam films, including

Johnny Walker, Kudumba Sametham, Kanjirappally Kariyachan, and Acharyan.

These projects allowed me to bring my sculptural and visual sensibilities into the world of film.

Historical Artwork

In 1994, I created a pen portrait of Mother Teresa, a work that remains close to my heart.

It carries her original autograph and benediction—an honour I deeply cherish.

Public Installations

Aksharashree (2003)

A 16-foot public sculpture installed at the entrance of Kottayam.

Commissioned by Kottayam Municipality and the media house Malayala Manorama.

Touch of Love (2023)

A thematic sculpture created for Sevana Nilayam, Gandhinagar, Kottayam—an artistic reflection on compassion and human connection.
